Analysis of the working principle of air-cooled compartment chiller
In modern industrial production and commercial applications, precise temperature control plays a key role in ensuring stable operation of equipment and reliable product quality. As a highly efficient refrigeration equipment, air-cooled box chillers are widely used in many fields such as chemical industry, pharmaceutical industry, food and beverage, data center, etc. A deep understanding of its working principle will help users better select, use and maintain the equipment and give full play to its performance advantages.
The core working principle of air-cooled compartment chillers is based on the reverse Carnot cycle, which mainly achieves the cooling effect through the coordinated operation of four major components: compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator. These four major components are interconnected to form a closed circulation system in which the refrigerant circulates continuously and realizes the transfer of heat through state changes.
Compressor: The power source of the refrigeration cycle
The compressor is the heart of the entire refrigeration system. Its function is to compress the low-temperature and low-pressure gaseous refrigerant into a high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant. In air-cooled van chillers, common types of compressors include piston, screw and scroll types. Different types of compressors differ in structure and performance, but the working principles are basically the same. Taking the piston compressor as an example, the motor drives the crankshaft to rotate, and the connecting rod causes the piston to make reciprocating linear motion in the cylinder. When the piston moves from one end of the cylinder to the other, a stroke is completed. In the suction stroke, the piston moves outward, a negative pressure is formed in the cylinder, and the low-temperature and low-pressure gaseous refrigerant from the outside is sucked into the cylinder through the intake valve; in the compression stroke, the piston moves inward, compressing the refrigerant in the cylinder, increasing its pressure and temperature, and becoming a high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant, which is then discharged from the cylinder through the exhaust valve and enters the condenser. The working efficiency and performance of the compressor directly affect the cooling capacity and energy consumption of the entire chiller. An efficient compressor can output a large cooling power with a small energy consumption.

Condenser: The key link of heat release
The high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant discharged from the compressor enters the condenser. The function of the condenser is to transfer the heat of the refrigerant to the surrounding air, so that the refrigerant condenses from gas to liquid. The air-cooled condenser uses a fan to force air to flow over the surface of the condenser to achieve heat exchange between the refrigerant and the air. The condenser is usually composed of one or more groups of copper tubes and aluminum fins. The refrigerant flows in the copper tubes, and the aluminum fins increase the contact area between the condenser and the air, thereby improving the heat exchange efficiency. During the flow of the high-temperature and high-pressure gaseous refrigerant in the copper tube, the heat is transferred to the outer wall of the copper tube, and then to the surrounding air through the aluminum fins. Under the action of the fan, the air continuously takes away the heat from the surface of the condenser, causing the refrigerant to gradually cool and liquefy. After being cooled by the condenser, the refrigerant becomes a medium-temperature and high-pressure liquid, preparing for subsequent expansion and decompression and evaporative cooling. The heat dissipation effect of the condenser has an important influence on the performance of the chiller. A good ventilation environment and appropriate air flow can ensure efficient heat dissipation of the condenser, thereby ensuring the stable operation of the chiller. If the condenser does not dissipate heat well, the refrigerant condensation temperature and pressure will increase, the power consumption of the compressor will increase, the cooling capacity will decrease, and it may even cause equipment failure.
Expansion valve: a regulating device for reducing the pressure of refrigerant
After the medium-temperature and high-pressure liquid refrigerant is condensed by the condenser, it needs to be depressurized by the expansion valve to turn it into a low-temperature and low-pressure liquid refrigerant so as to realize evaporative cooling in the evaporator. The expansion valve is a throttling device that adjusts the evaporation pressure and temperature of the refrigerant in the evaporator by controlling the flow of the refrigerant. Common expansion valves include thermal expansion valves and electronic expansion valves. The thermal expansion valve uses the superheat of the refrigerant at the outlet of the evaporator to adjust the opening of the valve. When the heat load of the evaporator increases, the superheat of the refrigerant at the outlet of the evaporator increases, and the refrigerant gas in the temperature-sensing package expands, pushing the valve stem to increase the valve opening, and the refrigerant flow rate increases to adapt to the change of the heat load of the evaporator; conversely, when the heat load of the evaporator decreases, the valve opening decreases, and the refrigerant flow rate decreases. The electronic expansion valve uses the controller to accurately control the valve opening according to the operating parameters of the chiller to achieve more accurate regulation of the refrigerant flow rate. The electronic expansion valve has the advantages of fast response speed and wide adjustment range, which can enable the chiller to maintain a high operating efficiency under different working conditions. Reasonable selection and correct debugging of the expansion valve are crucial to the performance of the chiller. Improper expansion valve opening will cause the refrigerant flow to be too large or too small, affecting the cooling effect of the evaporator and may even cause compressor failures such as liquid hammer.
Evaporator: Component that realizes the cooling effect
After the low-temperature and low-pressure liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator, it absorbs the heat of the cooled medium (such as water or other refrigerant) in the evaporator, and vaporizes from liquid to gas, thereby cooling the cooled medium. The evaporator is also composed of copper tubes and aluminum fins, similar to the condenser, but the working process is opposite. The cooled medium flows in the evaporator, and the refrigerant evaporates in the copper tube to absorb heat, so that the temperature of the cooled medium is reduced. In an air-cooled compartment chiller, the evaporator is usually used as a part of the chiller, and forms a circulation system with a water tank, a water pump, etc. The water pump transports the water or refrigerant in the water tank to the evaporator, and returns to the water tank after cooling, and the cycle is repeated to provide low-temperature circulating water for the equipment or process that needs to be cooled. The heat exchange efficiency of the evaporator directly affects the cooling capacity of the chiller. A reasonably designed evaporator structure and sufficient heat exchange area can ensure efficient heat exchange between the refrigerant and the cooled medium.
The air-cooled box chiller achieves the purpose of cooling and cooling by transferring the heat of the cooling medium to the surrounding air through the coordinated work of the four major components of the compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator according to the reverse Carnot cycle principle. In actual applications, the chiller is also equipped with a control system that can automatically adjust the operating frequency of the compressor, the speed of the fan, the opening of the expansion valve and other parameters according to the temperature set by the user and the actual operating conditions, ensuring that the chiller is always in the best operating state and providing users with stable and efficient refrigeration services. Understanding the working principle of the air-cooled box chiller is of great significance for users to correctly operate and maintain the equipment and improve the operating efficiency and service life of the equipment.
