Introduction to the working principle of air cooler
In the hot summer, in order to create a comfortable indoor environment, people often use various cooling devices, and air coolers are one of them. Air coolers, also known as environmentally friendly air conditioners, have been widely used in many fields such as industrial plants, commercial places and homes due to their unique cooling principle and energy-saving and environmentally friendly characteristics. So, how does an air cooler work? Let's take a deeper look at its working principle.
The basic structure of the air cooler
The air cooler is mainly composed of a shell, a wet curtain, a fan, a water circulation system, and a control system. The shell is usually made of a sturdy and durable material, such as galvanized steel or engineering plastics, to protect the internal components and support structure. The wet curtain is one of the core components of the air cooler. It is generally made of a special water-absorbing material. Common ones are paper wet curtains and polymer wet curtains. Its surface has many tiny pores, which can greatly increase the contact area with the air. The fan is responsible for driving the air flow. Common ones are axial flow fans and centrifugal fans. The appropriate fan type is selected according to different application scenarios and air cooler models. The water circulation system includes a water tank, a water pump, and connecting pipes, which are responsible for transporting water to the top of the wet curtain and ensuring that the water is evenly distributed on the wet curtain to achieve a continuous evaporation and cooling process. The control system is used to adjust the various operating parameters of the air cooler, such as wind speed, water pump start and stop, timing function, etc., to meet the different needs of users.
Core working principle: evaporation cooling
The core working principle of the air cooler is based on the heat absorption property of water evaporation. When air flows through the wet wet curtain surface, the water changes from liquid to gas. This process requires the absorption of heat, and this heat comes from the air flowing through the wet curtain. According to the law of conservation of energy in physics, when the air loses heat, the temperature will drop. This is just like in the hot summer, when we apply alcohol on our skin, the alcohol evaporates and takes away the heat from the skin surface, making us feel cool.
Specifically, the water circulation system pumps the water in the water tank to the top of the wet curtain through a water pump, and the water penetrates downward evenly along the texture of the wet curtain, so that the wet curtain always remains moist. The outside air is forced to pass through the wet curtain under the strong suction of the fan. Due to the large number of tiny pores on the surface of the wet curtain, the air is in full contact with the wet surface of the wet curtain, which accelerates the evaporation of water. For every kilogram of water evaporated, about 2,500 kilojoules of heat can be absorbed, thereby significantly reducing the air temperature. The cold air cooled by the wet curtain is blown into the indoor space by the fan to achieve a cooling effect on the environment.

Factors affecting cooling effect
Air humidity: The initial humidity of the air has an important influence on the cooling effect of the air cooler. In an environment with low relative humidity, water evaporates faster, and the air cooler can absorb heat from the air more effectively, achieving a significant cooling effect. For example, in the dry areas in northern my country, the cooling range of the air cooler may reach 5-10℃ or even more. However, when the air humidity is high, it becomes more difficult to evaporate water, and the cooling capacity of the air cooler will be weakened accordingly. In an environment where the humidity is close to saturation, the air cooler can hardly play a cooling role, because the partial pressure of water vapor in the air is already very high, and it is difficult for water to change from liquid to gas.
Wet pad area and quality: The larger the area of the wet pad, the larger the contact area between the air and the wet pad, the more water evaporates, and the better the cooling effect. At the same time, the quality of the wet pad is also crucial. High-quality wet pads have good water absorption and ventilation, which can ensure that water is evenly distributed and air passes smoothly. For example, some polymer wet pads made with advanced technology have stronger water absorption than ordinary paper wet pads, and are not easy to breed bacteria and mildew, and can maintain stable cooling performance during long-term use.
Fan performance: The fan's air volume and air pressure determine the speed and flow of air flowing through the wet curtain. A larger air volume allows more air to come into contact with the wet curtain per unit time, increasing the chance of water evaporation and thus improving cooling efficiency. Sufficient air pressure ensures that the cold air can be smoothly transported to a longer distance and cover a larger space range. For example, in a large industrial plant, a fan with high air volume and high air pressure is required to enable the cooling effect of the air cooler to cover the entire workshop.
Advantages of air cooler working principle
Energy saving and environmental protection: Compared with traditional air conditioning equipment, air coolers do not require complex refrigeration equipment such as compressors, and their operating power is low, with energy consumption only about 1/8-1/10 of that of traditional air conditioners, greatly reducing energy consumption. At the same time, air coolers use the principle of natural evaporation cooling, do not use refrigerants such as Freon that are harmful to the environment, and have no destructive effect on the atmospheric ozone layer, which is in line with the current development trend of energy conservation and environmental protection.
Ventilation: While cooling, the air cooler can continuously introduce a large amount of fresh air and discharge the dirty air in the room to the outside, achieving a good ventilation effect. This can effectively improve the air quality, reduce the spread of odor and germs, and create a healthy and comfortable indoor environment for crowded places such as conference rooms and Internet cafes.
Low cost: The purchase cost of the air cooler is relatively low, and the installation is relatively simple, without the need for complex piping systems and professional installation techniques. Its daily maintenance is also relatively convenient, mainly by regularly cleaning the wet curtain and water tank, replacing wearing parts, etc. The maintenance cost is much lower than that of traditional air conditioning equipment.
The air cooler achieves efficient, energy-saving and environmentally friendly cooling effects by cleverly utilizing the principle of heat absorption by evaporation of water, combined with carefully designed structures and components. With the continuous advancement and innovation of technology, the performance of air coolers will be further improved, playing an important role in more fields, and bringing people a more comfortable living and working environment.
