Space requirements

First of all, there needs to be enough space at the installation location. The chiller itself has a certain volume, and sufficient space should be reserved around it to facilitate the operation, maintenance and overhaul of the equipment. Generally speaking, at least 1.5 meters to 2 meters of space should be reserved around the unit, especially on the side of the inspection door, to ensure that the inspection door can be fully opened and there is enough space for maintenance personnel to operate. The space above should not be ignored, and a clearance height of at least 2 meters should be ensured to avoid affecting the heat dissipation of the equipment and possible equipment hoisting operations in the future. In addition, if multiple chillers are installed in parallel, the distance between the units should also be kept at about 2 meters to prevent airflow interference between each other.


Environmental factors

The ambient temperature has a significant impact on the operating efficiency of air-cooled screw chillers. It should be installed in a place where the ambient temperature is relatively stable and suitable. The ideal ambient temperature range is generally between 5°C and 40°C. If it is installed in an environment with too high a temperature, such as near a heat source (such as a boiler room, large heating equipment, etc.), it will cause the unit to have difficulty in heat dissipation, the condensation temperature will increase, and the refrigeration efficiency will decrease. The load of the compressor will increase, which will not only increase energy consumption, but also shorten the service life of the equipment. On the contrary, if the ambient temperature is too low, it may cause problems such as difficulty in starting the unit and increased viscosity of the lubricating oil, which is also not conducive to the normal operation of the equipment. At the same time, the installation location should be away from pollution sources such as dust, corrosive gases and steam. Too much dust may block the condenser fins of the unit and affect the heat dissipation effect; corrosive gases may corrode the metal parts of the unit and reduce the reliability of the equipment; and the steam environment may cause electrical components to become damp, causing short circuits and other faults.

Ventilation conditions

Good ventilation is the key to the normal operation of air-cooled screw chillers. The unit should be installed in a well-ventilated place to ensure that the condenser can get enough fresh air for heat dissipation. Choose to install it in an open place with no obstacles blocking the air circulation, such as the roof of a building, an open outdoor area, etc. If it must be installed indoors, ensure that there are enough air inlets and outlets indoors to form a good air circulation. The area of the air inlet and outlet should be reasonably designed according to the model and specifications of the unit. Generally, the area of the air inlet is not less than 1.2 times the windward area of the unit condenser, and the area of the air outlet is not less than 1.5 times. At the same time, avoid the relative setting of the air inlet and outlet to prevent the exhausted hot air from being sucked into the unit again, forming a hot air short circuit and reducing the heat dissipation effect.


Foundation and ground conditions

The foundation for installing the air-cooled screw chiller must be firm and level. The foundation should be able to withstand the weight of the unit during operation and the vibration that may be generated. For small units, a concrete foundation can be used. The thickness of the foundation is generally not less than 200 mm, and appropriate anchor bolt holes are set according to the size of the unit. For large units, a more solid steel structure foundation may be required. The foundation surface should be flat, and the horizontal error should be controlled within a small range, generally not more than 2 mm per meter, to ensure that the unit can run smoothly after installation and reduce equipment vibration and noise caused by uneven foundation. In addition, the ground bearing capacity of the installation location must also meet the requirements, especially for installation on non-ground layers such as the roof of a building, the bearing capacity of the roof must be calculated, and reinforcement must be carried out if necessary to prevent damage to the roof structure due to excessive equipment weight.


Impact of vibration

Air-cooled screw chillers will generate certain noise and vibration during operation. Therefore, the choice of installation location should take into account the impact on the surrounding environment. Try to avoid installing the unit near residential areas, hospitals, schools and other noise-sensitive areas. If it cannot be avoided, effective sound insulation and vibration reduction measures should be taken. For example, vibration-damping pads can be installed at the bottom of the unit to reduce the transmission of vibration to the foundation and the ground; soundproof covers can be installed around the unit to reduce the spread of noise. At the same time, the pipeline direction should be reasonably planned to avoid resonance between the pipeline and the building structure, further reducing the impact of noise and vibration.


Water source and drainage

Although air-cooled screw chillers do not require a large amount of cooling water, in some cases they may require regular equipment cleaning or winter antifreeze operations, so there should be a convenient water access point near the installation location. At the same time, drainage issues should be considered to ensure that the condensed water generated during the operation of the unit and the wastewater discharged when cleaning the equipment can be discharged smoothly. Special drainage pipes can be set up and connected to a suitable drainage system to prevent water accumulation from damaging the equipment and the surrounding environment.
